(The aim of this paper is to include in the theoretical framework for a discussion on Translation certain concepts taken from Psycholinguistics, particularly from the field of text comprehension. As for reading operations, it basically states the need to distinguish controlled processes from automatic processes, since they both impact on the way general readers –and translators– organize their prior knowledge, and they are both closely linked to inferencegenerating mechanisms and memory layout.)
