Abstract

This research analises the conflict between the Catholic religion and religiosity Mapuche in Cautiverio feliz by Francisco Núñez de Pineda and Bascuñan. Throughout this work will be seen, in the first instance, the miracle narrative construction as opposed to the figure of machi and healing practices. Second, and relatedly, will discuss the mechanisms by Pineda and demonizing worked to repeal the machi Bascuñan within their community, especially in relation to their sexual practices. The latter opposed the “love of friends” as an effective way of evangelization.
