The Musical Structure of the Tale “Nadie encendía las lámparas” by Felisberto Hernández

Abstract

In this paper, I analyze the internal structure of “Nadie encendía las lámparas”, by the uruguayan writer Felisberto Hernández. We propose that the structure of the short tale is based in different symbols related through contiguity mechanisms. The red color, the light and the humidity are connected, and form a implied frame. The author then creates two levels of reading. This levels can be explained due to musicals concepts of harmony and melody.
