Abstract

There are no stUdies on fog distribution in Chile. One of the causes of this lack of research is that the information is not the most adequate. In this paper, data for some meteorological stations in the country aregiven, a hierarchy of the places according to the number of days that fog is present is mapped, and some observations are made about the origin of the phenomenon, the spatial distribution and the consequences for man 's activities. The general objective is to call the attention of scientists to the need for these types of studies, and to caution environmental planners to have this problem when making their decisions.
