Five reports on San Pedro de Atacama from different periods, from the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries inclusive, are compared and analyzed, highlighting the maintenance of a population rooted to the land, the survival of indigenous communities or groups of "aillus" properties, and the survival of the language and traditional ways of life in the period studied.
