Abstract

The Latin humanistic comedy Poliscena, written in 1433 in Italy, is particularly interesting for the study of La Celestina, since it anticipates not only the character of the procuress, but also a series of situations in Fernando de Rojas’ work. Despite its historic-literary importance, this comedy has not yet been either critically edited nor translated into Spanish.

The present article offers both a transcription and a Spanish translation of a peculiar abridged version of the play. This Poliscena ‘compendiata’, ignored until now by critics, was also written in the XV century and it is found next to the complete text of the comedy in one of the Renaissance manuscripts in which the work has reached us
